We're not millionaires, but seeking sincere answers to many questions. We're a middle aged, quiet, culturally sensitive couple who'd like to make the big move before we get too old! Thank you very much.

  1. You might want to contact American groups for expatriates there, they all have sites. They can give you good information. I can't help you, I'm French myself.

Living in France is much different from being a tourist for a week or two.  Before making the big move, I'd suggest that you rent a cottage or flat for a few months to see how you really like it.  Everything in France (except for foie gras and French wine) is more expensive in France than in the US.  Sometimes double or triple the price and I'm not kidding.  If you buy things like appliances or household items (can opener for example), do not buy the cheapest one that you see.  More likely than not, it will be broken in a few weeks or months.  Be sure that you can speak at least some French.  Sure, you can survive as long as you have food and a blanket, but you will be living in a French speaking society.  France is definitely worth a visit and I could understand ppl visiting every year or every other year.  But you might find yourself really homesick for America if you move to France permanently.
