Any recomendations 4 Places 2 visit around Granada & Le Heradora on S coast?

Question

Staying in Le Heradora (if it's spelt correctly) Horseshoe bay! and Granada October & November 06

Would like a good look around the area whilst there, not one for just sitting around n boozing, not really into theme parks tho will need to visit one as we have a 4 yr old with us.

would like info on Sites to see, some shopping for the lady, as well as some thing for the 4yr old.

Any info would be nice.

Well, the place on the south coast you´re going to stay is La Herradura. It´s quite near Granada (about 70 kms). You can visit La Alpujarra, the name used to call some little villages in the mountains, which are also very near (half way between Granada and La Herradura); these villages (Capilerira, Lanjarón, Pampaneira...) are just beautiful and keep the old scent. Just their food deserves a visit!! (Ask for "jamón" or "papas a lo pobre"). There´s also wonderful and really appreciated ceramics. In Lanjarón you can visit the spa, which is not very luxurious, but there are different kind of water for different kinds of pain (I AM SERIOUS!!).

You can take your 4year-old-son to Almuñecar, a resort place just a few kilometres from La Herradura; there´s a "parrot" pak with many different kinds of parrots; there´s also a water park to enjoy if the weather is fine.

Of course you must come to Granada; it will take you about 1 hour drive or less. There are so many things to see in Granada that I would be writing for hours, but the "must" are: La Alhambra; if you are coming to the Alhambra, buy your tickets in advance in a BBVA bank or you may not find tickets for the day you come. There are also night visits which are just impressive; I just loved my night visit (I think they start at 9 pm in Oct and Nov). The visit is more restricted than the day visit, but it´s "different". Right opposite the Alhambra you have the Albaycin, the old moor quarter, with the most beautiful squares, streets and bars to have "tapas" (cold or cooked snacks with are given free with your drink: yes, I am serious!!!). Don´t miss "Mirador de San Nicolás", from where you´ll have the most impressive view of the Alhambra and its forest.

That time of the year we also have a jazz festival which is well known in case you like that kind of music.

SHOPPING!! You must buy some typical ceramics from Granada; you´ll find them anywhere downtown; from decorative plates to coffee sets you´ll find anything. It´s also typical what it´s called "taracea": they are very tiny pieces of wood fixed together to get from coasters to chess sets!! Just beautiful. You must take into account the Spanish opening hours: in the morning from 10 to 1 1/2 and then everything except the big department stores will be closed until 5 pm, when the shops open again until 8 pm. Department stores open from 10 am to 10 pm.

Well, the Cathedral, and the Royal Chapel are worth a visit too; the Catholic King and Queen are buried there.And we have a wonderful skiing resort only 30 kilometres far from the city. You don´t have to skii, you can go up the highest point in a cablecar (take warm clothes!!). We have the highest road in Europe, although its final 5 kilometres have been closed to cars for ecological reasons.
