Question:

Any recommendations for Turks & Caicos?

Also, what is a good time of year to go? Nice weather but not too crowded, you know?

I would like a nice place. Cozy rather than big hotel. Preferrably a place that doesn't cater to families. (Children are fine, but it's not relaxing when there are little ones running all over the place raising h**l.)

Any ideas?

  1. This place is well thought of. http://www.turtlecoveinn.com/

It is within an easy stroll of the unfashionable end of Grace Bay Beach (which you can generally have all to yourself) and very close indeed to the Marina, to a number of restaurants and bars and to various shops. It's not family oriented -- that's for the fashionable end of Grace Bay Beach, especially Club Med and Beaches Resort!

This is the off season, but most people avoid September, when there is little breeze and the mosquitoes proliferate. The perfect time of year is November to April.

  2. I stayed at the South Caicos Ocean Haven.  It's relatively small (22 rooms) and the owners are friendly.  It's a great place to stay if you like diving or snorkeling because there are many excellent sites nearby, including a plane wreck.  The food was very good too, especially the grilled lobster.  The only drawback is that there isn't a sandy beach at the resort, but there are some small islands within kayaking distance, and as I recall they had some sand.

  3. Try a bed and breakfast that is ran by a family.  A travel consultant can find one easier for you.  Actually I can recommend an excellent one for you that I know personally.

  4. The ideal time to go is during the winter months when it's cold and snowy in the states. We went in March and the weather was lovely, but May or June before hurricane season would be great  also.

We stayed at a cute boutique hotel on Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales Turks and Caicos.  The Sibonne Beach Hotel.

This was one of the first hotels constructed on the fabulous sands of Grace Bay Beach. The hotel is a fantastic value and has charm to spare, but don't expect anything grand or a huge laundry list of resort amenities. What it does have is a laid-back, informal vibe, alluring courtyard gardens, and knockout Grace Bay views. It's considerably more personable than any chain-style hotel, with rooms that have a light, breezy decor and a serious emphasis on comfort -- everything has been nicely updated.

We spend 10 days at this hotel and had a fabulous time.

Included in your room rate is a continental breakfast, that was surprisingly filling. But if you are a big breakfast eater, you can add to the comp food. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is excellent and very popular with guests from other resorts and the islanders.(the belongers) Dinner reservations are a must.

We didn't encounter any children when we were there. Couples or single adults, male and female. Age of guests varied. 20 years to 65 years.

The only cons were the beach towels, a bit thread bare (hopefully they have purchased new ones by now)

The location of Sibonne is perfect right in the center of the Grace Bay Beach. You can walk to a few nice restaurants from Sibonne.

Provo is one of my favorite beach destinations and be sure to do a boat/snorkel excursion. The different colors of the water will wow you.

Just take a walk down the beach to the front of the Alexander Hotel, there is a booth there called Caicos Dream Tours and take one of John's tours. Excellent. Here is a link.

    Good Luck and enjoy)
