Question:

Any recommendations for an audio receiver?

A few years ago, I purchased a 6.1 Onkyo home theater surround sound set, but after about a year and a half, it broke beyond repair. As a result, I have 6.1 surround sound speakers without a receiver.

I am looking for a receiver with HDMI video upconversion (you put all the chords into your receiver, and you output a single HDMI cable to your TV) that supports 6.1 speakers. I also want one that is below $1000 (as low as possible). Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  1. Anything Yamaha. They have the best receivers for the $.  If you want to spend more look for a marantz.

  2. Single Zone Sony STRDG910 $499.99. Great user reviews.

Dual Zone Denon AVR2308Ci $849.99. Fantastic.

Dual Zone more power Yamaha RXV861 $999.99

Edit: When you set up the receiver you can set it for 6 or 7 speakers for a single rear center or a left and right surround back configuration. Any 7.1 receiver can be configured either way.

If you want to spend $1200 I agree with GH and vote for the Yamaha RXV1800. It is tremendous.

  3. Take a look at the Yamaha RX-V1800 it will upconvert composite, s-video and component to 1080p through HDMI output. It is 1200$ but for the extra 200$ you get 4 HDMI inputs and full scale video upconversion as well as compatibility with new surround formats Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master. It is also a 7.1 system but it can be set to use only 1 back surround speaker for 6.1 sound.
