Question:

Any recommendations for removing Norton 360 and finding a good free anti virus to replace it?

I know this question has been asked a lot, but I need up to date answers.

I am wondering what is the best way to remove norton and also what I can replace it with. I have heard over and over again that there are some good free antivirus programs out there. How are these different than norton that cost $$$?

My computer runs painfully slow, and I am told this is because of norton. This is the main reason I am looking into it.

I am slightly computer retarded, so the more simple the answers, the better.

Thank you for helping.

  1. Avira AntiVir is the best free product I have found and you will need the Norton removal tool to fully uninstall Norton

    removal tool:

    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsg...

  2. Install a free trial at http://www.cyber-defenders.com

It has helped my computer a lot.

  3. Norton takes up alot  of memory and resources on your PC. I would replace Norton with Avast or Nod32. I would also get a good anti spyware program like spybot search and destroy or superantispyware.

  4. Avast is a good anti-virus

    http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-...  [Free home edition]

Avira is also a good anti-virus

  5. ok free n good is http://www.free-av.com

  6. get kaspersky 7 or the 2009 version off of a torrent and use a key file to register it

  7. you wont get back up and tune up in other Security Suite

if its necessary keep Norton or if not Get Kaspersky Internet Security

    http://www.kaspersky.com

  8. To remove Norton completely from your computer you will need the Norton Removal Tool http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsg...

This an easy tool to use so don't panic.

I'd then install avast home edition for free http://avast.com

You will need to register with them and they will send you an registration key in an email that you just copy and paste when you start avast. Again, this is very easy to do. The registration lasts a year and after that you just renew and the send you another.

I'd then install ccleaner http://ccleaner.com and run the ccleaner scan and the registry scan, repeating the registry one until nothing is detected. Remove everything it detects in these scans. I'd use this once a day in the future.

That's about it really but I would also recommend you install these 2 programs and run once a week to check for infections that anti-virus software doesn't pick up.

http://superantispyware.com Update and do a full scan

    http://safer-networking.org Update, immunize and scan

Hope this helps and feel free to email me if you need any help.
