  1. Shop around for accommodation and car rental deals. This is the off season for New Zealand so there are some great deals going. Look at the campervan option. Some companies offer campervans on long term hires at the same price of a car.

  2. Also try hostels as opposed to B and B's or hotels - there are some excellent ones out there. See a great link below.

  3. Well there is skiing....there are more options in the South Island.

Obviously there will be snow ( mainly in the mountains/hills but have occasional  snow storms to sea level in parts) and it will give you some amazing scenery....It will be quite cool too but as long as you have warm clothes you will be fine.

It depends on what you want to do...go to the wineries in Marlborough, do sightseeing along the West Coast ( south island) to see the Glaciers ( Franz Josef and Fox), lakes ( eg Lake Matheson), bush.....or go inland to Mt Cook National Park, where there are different types of lakes and glaciers and lots of tussocky landscapes.......

Go whale watching in Kaikoura.....you can do most things you can in winter....even swimming....ok that will be "bracing"..but there is surfing too.

    Have fun.
