Any recommendations in Crete, Chaia for an "older Bohemian" to investigate for modest retirement?

I decided to take my worthless us dollars to Greece, Crete to retire - been obsessing this for awhile, feel rested finally with decision, feels the right one -- so as I've never been to Crete, but the mainland and other islands, can anyone give me any more personal suggestions .... Hi and happy retirement.

Crete is a very big island (as you have seen in the map) and there are many different areas.There are gorgeous beaches and beautifull mountains.The most beautifull city for me is Chania. But because there are so many different lifestyles I think you should go there and spent at least a month traveling around.It is something entirely up to you and your way of enjoying yourself.Do you like people or do you need peece? do you want be in walking distance from the sea or do you like trees?

I am sorry I know I am not helpfull but it is a very serious decision.

And I think you should speak to other people who have moved here to tell you their experiences.
