Any recommended books for doing a Natural barefoot trim?

Both my boys are currently barefoot and I want to keep them that way if possible. My husband will be having instruction on 'barefoot' trims but we would like a good book to provide extra information/support for the future - when he is deemed proficient - and also so that we can both read around the subject. I have found two excellent websites but need something instructional and easy to follow in hard copy. We live in Bulgaria so whatever I order needs to be right first time as it takes weeks to get here from the UK. Thanks to everyone who replies and PLEASE, no critic's, we are sensible, highly experienced people who are no doing this lightly!

  1. I LOVE this website...http://www.thenakedhoof.com.au/

click on the links at the left of the page.  I'm looking to see if this man offers books or dvds.

If nothing else...if you have the ability to print off the pages...you could do that and have them to carry around with you to where the horses are being trimmed.

This is a book recommended on the site...Dr. Hiltrud Strasser's two books, "A Lifetime of Soundness", and "Shoeing: A Necessary Evil?"

  2. I dont think you will find one.  Its illegal here to trim horses feet unless you are qualified - so there arent any general release books.  You could try 'books on farriery' or 'boooks on barefoot horses'.

Otherwise you will have to just put in 'barefoot farriers' and contact one of them and ask them for help.

Lots of people are now choosing barefoot - we're half and half - shoes on front, bare at the back.  But I have never seen any books.  Have you thought of contacting a barefoot specialist and explaining your situation?

Sorry cant be of more help due to the legal angle.

  3. The problem you will have is that whoever is doing your instruction will have their own ideas and they will be different to others, You had best ask your instructor! I got KC Lapierres DVD and book, the book isn't very clear but the DVD is excellent, you can get it sent from the USA, www.equinepodiatry.net . I was lucky to find a Lapierre trained trimmer nearby and she helps me out and visits every 6 months to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong, and of course every time she comes I learn a bit more. I don't know where Pooh lives, in the UK it's perfectly legal to trim your own horses, only shoeing needs a qualification.

  4. Hello. I am also British living in a foreign country (Turkey) and get things shipped over from the UK as its impossible to get the same stuff in this country.

Would I be able to ask of the websites you have found as I am also looking into doing my own foals hooves once I have had enough advice from my farrier.

Sorry I couldnt help answer your question.

Meanwhile I have searched the net a little and found this one that looks good:

  5. I competed my TB barefoot for years but always had a qualified farrier dress his feet. He now has remedial shoeing in front due to an injury but is still barefoot in back. However, as I said, a qualified farrier does it.
