Question:

Any recourse for soon-to-be-ex sharing account info and identity?

My soon to be ex wife is taking all the details from the court papers, including account numbers, balances, SS numbers, Date of birth, etc and keeps emailing these to her new boyfriend... among other possible people.

Is there anything that I can do about this? While wrong, is she doing anything actually illegal?

  1. ask your lawyer...minimally, be placing a fraud alert on your credit so that your wife cannot be opening new accounts in your name.  Also, I'd be getting new account numbers issued as a fraud alert.

At the least your attorney can issue a cease and desist order.  Not sure if she's violating the Privacy Act unless you can prove she's wilfully giving your private information to another under pretext of fraud.

  2. If she is sharing your personnal inforamtion i.e. SS# Account #'s etc then you have a good civil suite against her.

Take her to the cleaners.  If she plays this way you might have fu8n with it...

  3. Could be trying Id fraud he could say he was you and take all of it.

  4. I really hope there is some recourse for you.  But if I were you I'd immediately put a freeze on my credit (I heard about this from Suze Orman).  That way no one can start any new lines of credit.
