Question:

Any recourse for stolen book idea?

I work for a book publisher, but not for the publishing company. I told my employer of an idea I had for a book, he gave me advice regarding research and firming up the idea (which I followed), and suggested we set up a meeting in the future to discuss it further. Well, due to vacations and schedules, the meeting never happened. Last week (and about 2 months after the initial proposal on my part) he sat me down and basically pitched MY idea back to me, inserting himself into the idea, and asked me if I would like to be a part of the book, but in no way did he acknowledge that the concept was based on my original idea. He actually quoted me directly in his pitch. What can or should I do?

  1. Obviously if you don't have proof there's nothing to be done. If he can look you in the face and do this to you, then do you really want to work for this guy?
