Any scientific laboratorys blasting chemical mixes?

Does anyone know of scientific testing being done with little bangs on chemical mixes to create life and other scientific designs since we learned the origin of the universe and life?

I have heard of an experiment where a sterile container had all the materials added to it that replicated the earth before life. things like Nitrogen, water, carbon dioxide etc. they passed electric current through it simulating lightning and kept the process going for quite a few years from what i was told.

when they analysed what was left they found phospholipids and fatty acids both essential for life, as well as hollow spheres of an organic compound. inside the spheres were lipids and acids and they almost represented a cell without a nucleus.

this however was not "alive" but who knows? all the elements for supporting life were there but no life. maybe they needed to run it for millions of years to find out if that's how life was created!

This is stretching my memory though. I was told this 10 years ago by my biology professor.
