Im a hitter, but today, I was just practicing the basics with my friend. You know the bumping and setting, then we peppered. We practiced bumping for like 20 minutes and setting for like 20 minutes. I think I hurt my fingers really badly!!!! It's like all swollen and my knuckles are puffy and my hands are just killing me right now! Does this happen to setters all the time?? OH and I broke all my nails... I've been growing them out for 3 weeks so I can go get a manicure, but thats all ruined now! lol but i dont really care about that but will my fingers heal sometime between now and tomorrow?

  1. I am a very skilled setter (not to be overconfident)

that happens every once in a while, but after a while it gets to be a regular thing. as does finger jams and broken nails. try to rest your hand and stretch even your hand before playing

  2. your knukles are getting used to it..its normal ..somtimes..=D

  3. Well I'm a setter and from twenty minutes of setting your fingers probably shouldn't hurt that badly.  Just the muscle should maybe be sore and that should be about it.  You might have jammed them on accident, but you should watch the form of your hands when you set.  That could possibly have something to do with it.  Feel better =]

  4. Wow, i've set over and HOUR and it never ever hurt me.  You were probably using your wrist and stuff so you stuffed and jammed your fingers.  Only play if u know what ur doing.  That girl was right, how are you typing?  anyways, jammed fingers can actually hurt for life, and it may take weeks for it to heal.  sry to break it to you

  5. hi,

i am a setter/server and this has never happened to me, you need to ice them and keep it so the blood will flow. ummm, your fingers wont heal between a 1 day period because you must have jammed them to the point that they a severely hurt, so just take it easy.

  6. just one question...how are you typing with sore fingers ??

  7. even seasoned setters tend to have aching fingers after setting a lot of balls.  That's just natural.  Setting requires all the muscles in the finger to act on every touch.  That's more than the fingers deals with from day to day.

Trust me, it'll heal.  It might feel achy for awhile.  And the swell might go down by tomorrow, but it will still be achy.

  8. You can't like Vball too much if your screen name is soccer, lol!  You can't have nails if you are a setter!!!!!!!!!!!  What are you thinking?!  Your knuckles never hurt after setting if you do it correctly.  Your wrists will hurt until you gain strength.  Don't know what you did, but I wouldn't set for a while b/c you will just agitate the problem.  Please don't tell your coach you broke your nails.  The coach will not pick you!

  9. well. i am a setter. and that never happens to me.

but i set all the time.

but maybe since you practiced for that long and arent used to setting your fingers werent used to it.

if you keep practicing a little bit each day then your fingers will get used to it.

    good luck!!! =]

i hope your fingers get better quicklyy!!
