Any short courses (approximately 6 mths duration) on oil & gas or any that are related to petroleum?

Which country other than Norway is more recognized for its courses on oil & gas?

I know nothing about oil & gas and would like to start to get a introduction course on it..

  1. I'm not sure of any short courses (esp in English) in Norway, but if you don't find anything else and want a good introduction to oil & gas, I highly recommend the book "Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling, and Production" by Norman Hyne.  It's a little expensive, but the price has actually dropped a lot since I bought it (for $80).  It has a fantastic overview of all the aspects of the oil & gas industry and explains them in a way that even those with little or no background can understand it:

I'm a software developer working in the oil & gas sector with no background other than what I've picked up from various projects I've worked on, and I found it hugely beneficial.  In fact, I have to guard it carefully, because my other software-only colleagues always want to borrow it!

As for other countries, I would suggest the US obviously, esp. Texas.  There might be something at Univ. of Texas, which has a well-respected petroleum engineering department.  You might also check Scotland, since Aberdeen (and to some extent Edinburgh) are hot spots for North Sea activity.  I do know of someone who did a 2-year course in Edinburgh.
