Question:

Any side effects from magnesium supplementation on daily basis?

A cardiologist said I could take magnesium at 250 mg once or twice a day or when doing marathon training, especially.

He said this due to a heart (non-click) murmur/arrthymia that he says is asymptomatic.

I forgot to take the supplement one day and my muscles were twitching all over the place.

I take that to mean he is right and I was short on magnesium, or else it has a withdrawal effect?

  1. yes he told you rite. 250 is what  they recommend in the Russian Olympics. and it will lower blood calcium and prevent future heart issues.  try to find magnesium chloride. it absorbs very quick,  what he didn't tell you is the reason why they say athletes die young is because the are mag deficient

  2. Sounds like he was right mate ......  you won't get withdrawal effects from not taking them but your body will simply leach supplies of magnesium from your bones if you are deficient....  hence the twitching sensations.........magnesium is needed for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and of course for heart health and works in tandem with calcium ......  muscles twitching is a symptom of deficiency as are headaches and migraines, twitching eyelids or other twitching sensations ...... constipation and acid tummy can also be relieved by ensuring you get enough magnesium daily....... it's known as the antistress mineral and will bolster your system and help you to better deal with the stress of life .....  a chelated magnesium supplement is the easiest for your body to assimilate.

eat more foods rich in magnesium too ie ~ leafy and green vegies, wholegrain breads and cereals (if you can tolerate wheat), salmon, tuna and organic nuts and seeds .....  organic nuts and seeds to avoid the nasty sulfites that they "preserve" them with that will upset sensitive bodies and disrupt digestive processes.

    hope this  helps u

    peace 2 u
