Any site where I can search public criminal records without having to pay?

criminalsearches.com is a new one, and free. It's causing some complaints from bloggers though, because the info might not be right, and it's pretty vague. But it's worth checking out.

For correct, accurate info, a paid engine would probably be better.

http://www.crimcheck.com offers an extensive public records page, completely free of use.

Yeah, check out the free preliminary search below. Except that you can only do county searches for free... all te other ones are paid but they only cost 30-50 bucks for a life time membership through the sites below at least. It's the ones I have used the most both private and in my business....
