Question:

Any solutions to covering a mirrored wall? I saw them install screens on "Design on a Dime" but can't find how

I don't want to hang curtains. I am hoping for a solution that covers the outdated mirror. I can't remove it since I'm a renter. Maybe I could paint it with water-based paint that can be removed later? Can you use contact paper and remove it later?

  1. You can also disguise it with other techniques.  You can build a series of frames with 1 x 1 wood screwed together.  Then use rice paper, fabric, wall paper, whatever you want that is lightweight and staple it to the frames.  Use mounting tape or hook and loop tape that has one sticky side on each piece to adhere the frames on top of the mirror.  Place each frame right up next to each other for a continuous wall look.  When you go to move, simply pop off the frames and remove the sticky residue with WD--40 then clean the glass to remove that residue.

  2. I think you have many options.

The only thing you can't do is remove the mirrors...so.....

yes... you can solve this problem in a few different ways.

    Options:

    #1

You could make a 'false wall' with plywood and just put the framing up to cover the wall in a permanent way.  Then you could prime the wood and paint it just like you would any other wall.

    #2

You could make  wooden frames consisting of several light weight wood panels.  Only the 'frames' would be constructed with the centers having openings.  The panels will be measured to reach across the whole wall when layed 'flat' against the wall.  The panels would have three hinges at the top middle and bottom to connect them together to assist with removing and folding the screen when not in use.

After the panels are constructed.... then you would add fabric or something else to cover the openings.  You could cover them with plexi glass as well to give it an appearance of being 'opaque'.  Some choose to get really crafty and put decorative paper on the screen or picture frames.  The possibilities are endless with screens.

    Contact paper is another option.

There are wall clings that you could use to cover the mirrors as well.

    #5

You could hang a curtain rod above the mirrors and string fine chains all the way across.  Then add decorative one inch by one inch colorful light catcher charms to the chains.  Put a hole in the top of the light catchers and hang them randomly on the wall.  The mirrors would reflect the image back from the light catchers and make a very pretty display/focal point out of the mirrored wall.

Best of luck with solving the mirror issue.
