I am going on my honeymoon there in two weeks and am trying to put together some ideas of things to do while we are there. Anyone ever been before? Any suggestions? We are staying at the Royal.

  1. Xel Ha is a good place to go. Its a water park where you snorkel and hang with the dolphins if you like. The pyramids are nice is you like that type of stuff. Tulum is one and Checinitza (I know I am spelling it wrong) is anpther good one. Your hotel should have a list of tours you can get through them but it may be cheaper to find your tours in town.

  2. I think the gal with the peace sign has been smoking to much mota. PDC is not an Island and there are no volcanoes in the area. You are staying in a very nice place right in the middle of town, right on 5Th Ave. fun place just to walk around and people watch. Lots of shops, restaurants and bars.

As far as things to do, check out playatrips.com and you can see some of the excursions offered in the area.

Xcaret is very nice, but do not take the tour, it is located about 5 min. south of town. Take a taxi and purchase your tickets at the gate, the all-inclusive is the way to go, lots to do there. Do not purchase the night show dinner, it was terrible, but do go to the night show it was great. The buffet at Xcaret is very good.

Xel-Ha and Xcaret  are about the same. Xcaret actually had more activities. The Tulum Xel-Ha tour was nice as well. I did both, I wanted to snorkel alot. Tulum ruins are the only ruins located on the coast. Food was good on that tour as well.

The Myan Encounter was fun; Zip-line, Cenote swim and Coba tour. The Cenotes are beautiful and a must see.

Take the ferry over to Cozumel and snorkel over there, it is beautiful. They actually sell the tours on the ferry or check out the snorkel tours on line.

Find one of the local dive shops and check out a discover scuba course. They will take you on a shallow reef dive. Well worth it. WARNING: (This may make you want to go home and get your open water certification and then you will be taking your vacations in all kinds of tropical locations and diving all over. This is what happened to my wife and I. Now we are in Cozumel at least once a year.)

Chichen-Itza is another great tour, but it takes several hours to reach, being that it is in the interior of the Yucatan. Fun trip, but it takes almost all day.

Eat at El Oasis between 5Th and 10Th Ave.(if you get tired of eating at the hotel), they have the best shrimp tempura tacos and the best Mojito's in PDC. El Fagon is another restaurant the local go to very cheap across the street from the Wal-Mart. Just tell  a cab driver El Fagone. Great tacos!

The restaurants on 5Th are for the tourist and are not cheap! The food is good, but not any better than you will eat at home. Super Carne is another favorite of the locals, ask any of the locals and they will tell you where these restaurants are located.

Congrats on your wedding, I hope this Information helps you out.
