Any suggestions for a Brown Bear book themed first birthday party?

My son is turning 1 in August and I am planning a party themed around Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? (a favorite of his). Does anyone have any suggestions how I can incorporate any elements of this book into his party? Invitations, cake, decorations, favors, etc. We're planning on low-key, but would like to put on a cute party for him. Thanks!

  1. Cut out teddy bear shapes out of card stock, and send those as invitations.

Go to the $1 store to find bear and other animals from the books on the stuffed animal aisle. Use them to anchor balloon bouquets.

Some balloons and streamers, in bright colors (like the book!) will be great.

Will there be some other small children at the party? If so, you can have them play some simple games like Ring Around the Rosie, Sing the Wheels on the Bus, that sort of thing.

    Good luck!

P.S. And read the book at the party! He'll love sharing it with the whole family.

  2. buy some teddy bears from the thrift store or dollar store and have them everywhere as decorations and give to the kids after wards.

  3. I would make a large bear cake.  Alernatively make some cup cakes and decorate the tops with gummi bears.  You should find a mould for a cake on ebay.

For favors I would make some bear cookies and wrap them in cellophane tied with ribbon.

Play some teddy bears picnic music and have all the little guests dressed as cute bears.

For invitations take a plain piece of card and print some bear paw prints on the front.  You can find bear paw prints on clip art.

Write all the party details on the back.

  4. To make a bear cake - make a round cake for the head and use cupcakes or Hostess snowballs for the ears...  Of course decorate with chocolate frosting.

The dollar tree usually has teddy bears and party favors and decorating items.

If you are on a budget the cake will fit in just fine PLUS you have the memory of "you" baking his first cake....

  5. Your local grocery bakery can make cupcake cakes (cupcakes pushed together and iced as one cake on top) - easier to serve & easier for kids to eat.  They do all sorts of designs, and I'm sure they'd do a bear:) ....  Little boxes or bags of Teddy Grahams for favors (you can do labels on the computer - the ones that are 10 per page - and stick them on the boxes/bags to personalize).  Or, you can buy packs of 5-6 disposable tippy cups at the grocery, and fill those with Teddy grahams ......  PB&J sandwiches cut into bears with a bear cookie cutter;  Jello Jigglers cut with a cookie cutter;  fruit platter ..... Lemonade (doesn't stain)
