Question:

Any suggestions for an appropriate gift?

We will be having a luncheon for my husband's cousin's birthday on Sunday. We are NOT particularly close to her. She's single, in her mid-30's and a professional. Now I told my husband that we can just give her a gift card to one of the cofee shops around. Any suggestions? Is that good enough?

  1. I think it also depends on money amounts. If you weren't HOSTING the party, and only attending someone else's thing, then a 10 dollar gift card seems about right for someone you're not really close to.

Since you're having the luncheon, [which is weird since you're not close] then I think a small denomination gift card [no matter where you buy it] is a bit tacky.

But, it's true, if she's not a fan of high priced coffee, she won't appreciate a gift card from a coffee shop.

  2. If you don't know her well enough to know if she likes coffee, or if she likes coffee from certain places, you could get her a gift card for Target or some general type of store where pretty much anyone could find something they like.  If she has a hobby or preference that you do know of for sure, then get her a card for that.  Or really, you could get her a Visa gift card.  At this point, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love a gas card, just make sure you get one from a station that's near her.

  3. Ya know what... you may think it's crazy but photo albums or picture frames are something that everyone can use, they typically don't buy for themselves but always appreciate.  You can usually find good deals on them at Kohl's or Michael's.

  4. I agree with Mad Luv. Flowers are always a nice touch, but if you know she visits coffee shops a lot, then why not?

  5. As long as she likes coffee, I would think its a good idea. A gift card is always a safe gift, but make sure its something or somewhere she would enjoy ... bookstore if she is a reader for example.

  6. every girl likes flowers!  get her some Daisy's to go with the card and your a shoe in!

  7. A gift card is a great idea, but if you're not sure which places she likes to eat/shop, you can always get a nice gift basket too, something fairly inexpensive but also contains nice things in it (bath stuff, food, flowers, etc.)
