Question:

Any suggestions for restaurants in Paris that serve more simple fare like steak au poivre or coq au vin?

I'm an American going to Paris for the first time. Too often, restaurant guides tend to emphasize the ultra-luxurious and exotic rather than simple meals done well. I would appreaciate any suggestions .

  1. There are several places along Rue St. Michel in the Latin Quarter (just south of Notre Dame) that offer simple fare-- French, Italian, etc.

  2. Why you don't try a "French Creperie" rue Mouffetard. You can order anything you want.

  3. Don't be concerned. Almost any cafe or bistro will have simple "cuisine bourgeois"

Despite the impression given by some guidebooks not everyone in Paris is constantly eating in Michelin 3 star restaurants and chowing down exotic food laden with truffles and caviar.

Here are a couple of websites of restaurants that I've eaten in. Check out the menus and you'll see its not all "haute cuisine"
