Question:

Any suggestions for tour guides (for private tours) in Rome?

We will be in Rome for 8 days later this fall - 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 9 and 11). I would like to take private guided tours of the Vatican and of the Forum/Colisium/Palintine. Maybe the Catacombs, too. Any suggestions for great licensed tour guides that are especially good with kids?

Thanks,

  1. A great guide can bring any sight to life and keep everyone entertained. The best way to educate kids to make it fun. Context Rome has some of the best English speaking guides you will find. The guides are experts in their fields but not all boring! They know that if the kids are happy, the parents will be happy. Context now has tours especially geared toward kids. The Ancient Rome area is the area kids find most fascinating.  For info on Context Rome's kid tours go here: http://romeresources.contexttravel.com/k...

  2. Check out    www.viator.com   they have all kinds of tours all over Italy.  I took one in Venice and they were very professional and spoke very good english.

  3. Tours sucks..... they will put you in huge busses and show you what they want and take you like a baby where they want you to spend your money!!

Be smart, take a chance, tour on your own, discover places, walk around , meet people, talk to "strangers" ,you'll learn so much more and be proud of yourself..

And by the way,  take your kids  everywhere with you.... they'll be talking about it for the next 2 years!!!

    good luck!

  4. Skip the tour guides all together.  Your kids will be bored to pieces.  We took 1 and regretted all three hours of it.  Most sites have either a audio tour in English or some type of pamphlet.  When we went to the Colosseum the people on the tour had mini ear plugs in looking at imprints of leaves in the stone.  Explore on your own.  It's a lot more fun and your not stuck doing one thing for hours.  Just take the bus.

  5. Check with your hotel once you are there..they will be able to recommend one.

  6. most kids do not like tours because everything is restricted, when to start, to go, to eat, to stay .....  and most of their talks, the kids do not have any interest in.You have so many days and these places are so easy to go to with a simple guide book. We have been to Rome 3 times and other parts of Italy. The first time to Europe, we took a tour, the second time, to Prague, we took a half day walking tour with the local tour guide, my kids who were older than yours, claimed that if it's a tour, they will not go. After that, we went on self-guided tour and they love them all.
