Question:

Any suggestions on how to remove adhesive from bathtub?

We just moved in our new apartment and we are the first tenants to rent the unit. After taking several baths, my husband noticed the side of the tub nearest the drain had started forming some icky, dark soap scum. When he tried to clean it he realized whoever installed the tub failed to remove (what we think) some industrial adhesive and now we are stuck with the nasty soap scum stains!!

We have tried almost every over the counter bathroom cleanser to try and remove the adhesive and still nothing! Is there something from the hardware store we could try?

  2. Well my dear I have got news for you and you will not like it @ all. You will have to have that tub taken up because you may have other thighs going on under & around that tub that may cause by the contrator or it could even cause from the material that been used in the bath room and may be in other

placess in the apartment so you should not try to cosmetictly try to repaired it because you could have Cancer problem brewing behind those wals so get some one who knows what to look for, AND BY the way do not have the contractor that do the job comes back to take care of the problem. THE OTHER  THING IS. Is this your house or you are renting? if you are renting, What dose your lanlard say, & how comes you & your husband is the persons who are having the problem??. And if you have just bought the house and you say it's the first time your Husband have a bath in the tub well

you should have a case on it then so you have some wor to be done and you will have to start on it yesturday!. That means you should not keep using that tub @ all before you have it fixt one way or the other, by some one or the other OK? That's for you all health. I regret you were not close to me

I would solved your problem for you but some one who knoes

as I do he or she will help you with it so GOOD  LUCK  TO  YOU & YOUR  FAMILY.

  3. I had the same problem with a new bathtub I had uinstalled...try vegetable oil. Rub it with the oil. You may have to scrape a little but for the most it will just slide right off.

  4. Try scraping the adhesive off with a straight-edge razor.

Or buy a plastic putty knife from a home improvement store.  They're flexible yet strong enough to scrape off junk.

  5. If you remove the adhesive with a product that scuffs or weakens the finish of the tub, you will forever have to work harder to clean that spot. Be careful what you choose. I don't know if a product like "Goo be Gone" or "Bug off" will harm the finish. Generally, some WD-40 or a little lighter fluid will easily remove adhesive. I don't know if it will harm your finish. If you do use one of these products, make sure you wash it off quickly and completely. It will be slippery and you could fall and it may harm the tub with a longer exposure.

  6. A small amount of paint remover.

  7. yea u could try green that stuff is awsome wen it comes to gettn out stains!

  8. cut it out with a utility knife , If it is white  go to true value hardware and get a tube white lexel and recaulk it. it will not mildew

  9. Try scraping or any glue or adhesive removers. In my old apartment I had that problem.

    Good luck!

  10. hmmm there are these cleaners i use to get any sort of thing off.

i use it to get my fingernail polish of the tanning beds when i  have to wokr and i clean them

    either goo gone

    or goof off [stronger]

  11. There is an acid cleaner at target.  I think it's called lime somthing.  But it works pretty good.

  12. could you try heating it up then when it starts to soften scrape it off somehow

  13. goof off

    or

    Goo Gone

  14. goo gone

  15. You probably have construction glue on it. If the wall panels are solid surface and not tile I would bet on it. Very tough to clean off. Good luck. I had to scrape off what I could on mine then use automotive compound to fix the damage underneath.

  16. try scraping it off

  17. Believe it or not baby oil or peanut butter will do just fine but don't forget some elbow grease. lol , no really it works tried it myself.

  18. don't use a razor for this job, it will scratch up the tub.  Use nail polish remover to get this adhesive off, it that doesn't work, use WD-40!  It really works!

  19. GooGone - It works for most things like that.

  20. I use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel or the smaller alcohol pads to remove any adhesive.  It works great for me.  I have tried the goo be gone and it doesn't work as well.  Let me know if it works for you.  It even works on mirrors and windows.

  21. Try Acetone. it's a solvent you can buy at the hardware store or Home Depot.
