Any suggestions on how to use my Dyson vacuum on an area rug?

I love my new Dyson on all the other carpets. BUT, it sucks (and not in a good way) on my area rugs. I have two very large area rugs that obviously need vacuuming. But my vacuum does not seem to do the trick. Any tips?

Anchor one end of the rug(s) under a chair or another piece of furniture and vacuum away from that end.
