My daughter is 7 months old and a few weeks ago I started introducing her to a sippy cup. I got her a gerber sippy that has the double handles. The spout is hard and she is not taking to it. So does anyone have any suggestions on a new sippy cup I should try. Thanks.

  1. I have those same cups only I have the ones with the soft tip.  All three of my kids loved those cups and never had a problem with them.

  2. Um, I heard the Nuby ones were good.  My little cousin has one.

  3. The NUK training cup.  You can get it at Wal Mart.

  4. Nuby do great sippy cups, they have one thats a lot like a bottle teat, its soft but in the shape of spout rather then nipple teat.

  5. If you go to Wal-mart, They have 2 brands of transitonal cups, From bottle to sippy cup, They have soft spouts, They are very nice!!

  6. playtex and thermos both make a sippy cup with handles and a softer spout. my baby took to it right away.

  7. Try NUBY.  You can get them at babiesrus, walmart and target.  My daughter took to them immediately and have loved them ever since.  They come with two handles or as a taller thinner cup more like a bottle.  They have soft silicone tops that work really well.

    Good luck!

  8. i bought my son a playtex sippy with double handles and a soft spout...it is recommended for chidren 4-12 months (he's almost 6 months and he loves it!)

  9. I have an old one made by Tupperware. They make a good cup, it has a soft sipper and a spill proof design. I think they still make it, but the one I'm referencing is now my party cup that I bring to 21 and older party's if you know what I mean. As you imagine they could have changed the design a little bit sense then.

It worked well when I sipped milk, and now mixed drink. You can never go wrong with Tupperware.

  10. try the born free trainer cup.  bpa free.  my son could use it by himself the first try and i had tried several other cups that he struggled with.

  11. i use wallmart brand , the cheap ones they work fine

  12. We used the Gerber Fun Grips Soft Starter Spill-Proof Cups.  They were awesome.  I believe they hold 6 oz.  They have 2 handles.  The spout is soft, yet still shaped like traditional sippy cup spouts.  I haven't found a better beginning cup, and we've tried quite a few.

This is the only site that I could find that has a picture of them.  But they do sell them at Wal-Mart.  I believe we paid $8 for 2 cups.

  13. There are sippy cups out there that have a bottle-nipple-like spout with the double handles. I can't remember the brand but I remember getting them from Babies'R'Us. The softer sippy cup spout came from the recent "trend" of not using sippy cups at all. There had been some research claiming that the hard spouted sippy cups caused dental problems and minor mouth deformation if used too frequently. I'm guessing that the sippy cup industry fought back with the new softer spouted sippy cups.

I'm not a doctor but I have been a nanny for over 6 years and its been my experience that the sippy cup phase should be as short as possible. Sometimes, the kids get attached to the sippy cup just like they would a bottle, which is what you're essentially trying to rid them of when you switch to sippy cups. You might just want to start now teaching your child to use plastic "big boy/girl" cups over your kitchen floor or outside. There are fairly cheap ones that are kid sized, translucent colored plastic with lids and a hole for straws. That way, its not strictly sippy cups at all times. Trust me, when you lose the last sippy cup and there are no others in the house, and your child starts demanding their sippy cup, you'll be glad you've given them "big kid cup training".

  14. My daughter did the best with the Gerber color change cups.  They are skinny in the middle making them easier to hold.

  15. There is a really great beginners sippy called a Nuby. It has a soft silicone spout and I loved them with my kids.

  16. Nuby, with the soft top. My daughter refused the hard tops too, but she took to this one with a vengeance!

  17. She might be too young, we started at a year with Gerber and he loved it!

  18. Re-introduce it later. I think she's too young. You can try other designs, but you'll have more success when she's ready. It's not a matter of weaning her off the bottle; it's a matter of understanding what she can handle and what is your understanding of a natural and normal progression for both you and her.

  19. Try the sippy cup w/ the non spill soft straw but make sure they don't run around w/ the cup ;~)

Basically you just have to try various cups until she lets you know the one that is suited for her

Take the other cups and use them for her snacks instead so they aren't going to waste

  20. My daughter uses Avent sippy cups. They have double handles that can later be removed and a soft spout. She is 13 months and I started her on them at 11 months. She never used a bottle just cause I breast fed her up till than. Hopefully your baby will like them. They aren't shaped the same as a nipple so it may take a little bit till she gets used to the different shape. I got them at Target. I love them.
