Question:

Any suggestions on the naming of my new foal?

I recently purchased a mare who we now call Honeybun. She is a palamino with a blaze face and she hasn't been registered yet, so I still have a chance to give her a registered show name.

Her dad's name is Sports Good Boy, and her mom's is Sr Hickorys Royal Ms.

I've already come up with Sports Little Honey, but I'm hoping I can get a few suggestions from yall!

Remember it can't exceed 20 characters and spaces!

Also, I'd like to incorporate the word Honey or Honeybun, since that's her barn name :)

Thanks! Any questions, just ask!

  3. When registering names for our goats, sheep and rabbits, I always try to incorporate the sire's name for the boys and the dam's name for the girls.  I'm kind of in the same predicament right now, because I've got a pygmy due any day and I HATE both her and the buck's registered names.  Silver Beam x Beam Me Up Scotty - are you kidding me?  I'm going to have a goat that sounds like either some trekkie nerd name or an alien abduction.  Neither choices are appealing to me.

Seeing that you have a mare, why not focus on a variation of her mother's name - you've got a royal reference and you intend to call her Honeybun.  Maybe play around with a honey bee reference?  A royalty reference?  You'd have dutchess, queen?  I wouldn't worry so much about working the sire's name into her registration.  If I did that for my goats, I'd end up with a Dr. Spock sooner or later, and I think the other goats would laugh at him.

I'm sure I'll post a question on here when the kids are born.  I'm at a loss for the horrific name combination I've mentioned myself!

Good luck - registered names can be frustrating!
