  1. We have used Asda travel insuance for years. Had 2 claims with them and were paid out in a week

  2. Squaremouth is a comparison site that offers a zero complaint guarantee. All the carriers on the site have to maintain zero complaints or they are removed.

  3. I had to cancel a holiday I had booked with Expedia (insurance included).  There was no hassle, I just phoned the number, got the forms, had my doctor sign them and sent them back, got all my money back within a week.

Had travel insurance with Norwich Union and Halifax but Expedia are the only people I've ever had to claim from.

As long as you're claiming for a legitimate reason you should be fine.

  4. In Spain last October we had our car broken into and all our documents and 2 expensive cameras stolen. We claimed through Norwich Union. They do not pay out for replacement of the stolen documents  - Passports, driving Licences, temporary passports to get home (which cost us £46 each!!) or any incidentals in obtaining these (phone calls, parking charges etc).

We also had to supply a copy of the police report (or denouncia - issued by the local police) Insurance companies insist that stolen items are reported to the police in the respective country

Norwich Union did "pay out" for the cameras by contacting a specialist electronics firm which supplied us with the exact make and model of the cameras that had been stolen (we were asked, and were able to supply, serial numbers and original receipts) which we were happy with.

It took about 4 weeks in total for the claim to be finally settled. I would think that this is the norm in the insurance industry.

(we also later found out there was a limit per item of £1000 which was just as well as my husbands camera cost £999!!!)

  5. I used to work for Norwich Union in customer services, I dont receive many complaints about the lenth of time it takes to be paid out, so check their prices as they are quite good.

Also my friend had travel ins with the Post office and had to cancel her holiday due to her dad dying.  The only hassle she had was producing documents from the doctor and that was because to docs were taking their time.

Im sure if you stick to the main stream insurers you will be fine.

  6. most insurance company,s are good the problem most people have is not reading the small print i.e.keep all receipts ,money must be in a safe ,basically the rule of thumb is that you have to prove everything.I have been paid out in about four weeks.
