  1. absolutely nottttttttt are you serious they will  let you put it under the luggage area definately NOT THE CABIN.

  2. The cat must NEVER go to cargo. It will be shocked and perhaps die due to low temp. Take it in the cabin with you. As for people being allergic to cats, no one is DEATHLY allergic and they can change seats, I am sure.

Now, as for tranquillizers, you know your cat. Has it travelled with you before, like in a car? Is he calm? Personnally I wouldn't tranquillize mine, he is very good with travels. As for other advice:

    1. If your cat is small, you could fit a little box with sand in the carrier, in case he needs to pee. However, make the carrier as small as possible, because air space is small.

    2. Encourage him to pee and p**p at home before you leave, in order to avoid accidents. Mine does when I put him in the litter box with fresh sand.

    3. IMPORTANT: Keep baby wet wipes with you, and a small disposable bag. You may need them if he poops or throws up in the plane.

    4. Don't feed him before the travel, so that if he vomits it won't be so bad.

  3. First you need to check with your airline that you are allowed to take the cat, many are not licenced to carry livestock, and if they are do they permit them in the cabin.

Cats, dogs and other animals travel fine as cargo/baggage, they go in the hold with the suitcases, the hold is heated for them.

Take advise from your vet whether to tranquilise or not.

When you speak to your airline they will give you all the requirements for the cat box, size etc.

I worked for an airline and handled thousands of animals and never opened the doors to find a dead one!

  4. ABSOLUTELY no.

The cat must stay inside the cargo in a cage/carrier.

It's not about the cat running around or being active.

What if the passenger sitting next to you was DEATHLY allergic to cats?

That's the reason why animals are kept in the cargo.

There are methods however, to allow animals to be as comfortable as they can be when they're down there.  Tranquilizers, etc. I'm sure your vet will be able to diagnose your cat.

    EDIT:  cpinatsi is clueless.

    1.  The pet cargo is heated.  They will not be freezing to death.  When was the last time you heard about a lawsuit against an airline for their dead dog? Hah.

    2.  DEATHLY allergic was an example.  The keyword isn't "deathly," it's "allergic."  Do you really think they're going to be switching people up and changing people around just for your cat?  Also, in an enclosed space with recycled air, changed proximity to the cat will not make a difference.

    3.  I have NEVER seen an animal being allowed in the cabin on a commercial airline, so good luck getting it into the cabin with you, you'll need it.

    4.  cpinatsi, stop making things up.
