I'm rather gifted playing the trumpet. I've been playing since the 7th grade. I've been in the Top 5 chairs all 3 years. I'm also mediocre at piano. I would love to learn to play another instrument. My mom said maybe after football season is over. Any ideas on what to learn how to play? Ha no guitar. I've tried and I can't seem to get the chords right. Thanks a lot :)♥

  1. Try harmonica. I play harmonica, and it is by far the coolest instrument ever. Plus, you can show off with it just about anywhere... since it's small and you can fit it in our pocket.

  2. Marimba!!!!! or mallets.... i played percussion in school for 10 years in school and loved it!!! if you can understand piano, it does make it easier to learn mallet instruments, keys are laid out the same, but obviously you play with mallets instead of your fingers...

  3. My daughter plays french horn.  For whatever reason, brass players seem to also pick up the saxophone pretty well.

Also, since you have some background in piano, you should try percussion.  You'll pick up all of the percussion instruments easily, but be ahead of the average beginner on mallets (marimba, bells, etc.), because they require reading the grand staff and playing more than one note at a time.... which you already know how to do.

My middle daughter just started band.  She is a very talented pianist.  The directors all but begged her to play percussion for them.

  4. Im a bassist and i had started like 3 months ago and im already really good at it, and everything like my band making a CD. Bass is something u'd want to do before ur ready for guitar

  5. Hey I play the Trumpet too.  You should play the French horn thats a cool instrument.

  6. i would actually go with viola, it has more "spiff" and attitude than a violin, and it is also a great way to submerge in strings.

likewise, alto sax shouldnt take you too long, depending on how often you practice you can be decent after maybe half a year, if not earlier.

i would watch out with trumpet and sax though, you will have a problem adjusting. i play tenor sax and have tried trumpet and it took me months just to make a noise; be cautious with that.

  7. why dont you try drums or violin? i think they are preety cool.

    please help me with  mine

  8. i play alto saxophone and i love it! i have played for over 5 years now and every year my love for it grows. It has that rich tone that allows you to play jazz very easily while also switching over to rock very easily! my suggestion is totally just pick it up and get improvising with a sax like never before!!

  9. If Alto Sax appeals to you, go for it. Don't ask someone you don't know to tell you that an instrument is easy to play or that it is cool.

Do it because you want to play it and know that you will enjoy learning and playing.
