We want to plan an outing for Saterday/Sunday. It should not be too far from Pretoria but also not too close. At least 1hr drive. We will be three people plus a 2.5yr toddler. We also want to do something, like horse riding or game drive. Not too expensive. Just a quick getaway. Any suggestions?

  1. Been years since I did a drivearound in Gauteng (and I live there!), but here are a few suggestions based on positive recommendations from friends:

    Sterkfontein Caves/Cradle of Humankind

    Magaliesberg

    Hartebeespoort Dam

Warmbaths/Bela-Bela area (Waterberg) - lots of resorts and game lodges

  2. Go to downtown Johannesburg and see the ruins of the great civillisation that built the finest city in Africa, there is plenty of wildlife and animals to see in these great ruins, and don't forget to do some window shopping with your family, while you are there it is perfectly safe so feel free to wear all of your jewellery and don't forget your cameras.

Then after that go to Hillbrow and be enchanted by the local people at play, singing and dancing and having a great time, happy as the day is long, and don't be put off by the smell of urine in the streets or the litter and garbage that you will find there, it is all part of this wonderful free New South African paradise that was created by Nelson Mandela  and his chior of angel.

You see, ANC means , Angels Never Cheat.
