I am a beginner rider and I am over 6'-4" tall. I would like know what would be good bike to start out with, without breaking the bank.

I prefer cruisers over bullet bikes, but I'll entertain all suggestions. Any and all brands are also being considered.

Thanks

  1. Honda 750 and up. Avery nice ride for the money.

  2. My vote would be a dual purpose bike- very comfortable for taller riders. KLR650, Dr650, etc...

  3. I'm 6'4" and I ride a Yamaha Roadstar, 1600cc.  But it's ALOT of bike for a beginner.  Weighs in about 750lbs.

  4. I would definitely recommend the Suzuki Boulevard series.

    I am 6'3" 200#, and I ride an '06 Suzuki Boulevard C50 (804cc V-twin - fuel injected, liquid cooled, & shaft driven!).

It has been an excellent bike for commuting to work, cruising down the highway, and even on a few long trips.  It is comfortable - has a nice big seat, and floorboards.  Heel-toe shifter, and the shaft drive means no s******g with messy chains or worrying about belts breaking.

The price is right - even brand new you can pick one up for less than $8K.

It's a magic carpet ride.  Plenty of speed and torque, stops on a dime, and you can get all kinds of accesories that are custom made.  I slapped a seat back on mine for when my wife or daughter rides on the back.

    I'm 100% satisfied.

They make a 90ci version too - it's an identical bike, but with the bigger motor, unfortunately it adds weight (and makes it a bit top heavy - I can pop the C50 up between my legs without touching the handlebars), and then theres the M109R of course - 109ci, and bad-azz looking bike.  $$ though!

Good luck - and if you are a new rider, you might consider taking a riding course to learn how to maneuver and handle your bike, and most importantly - how to stay alert, and avoid getting run over.

They generally tell you to pretend like you are invisible when you ride - that way you aren't surprised when some ****** swerves into your lane.

I take it a step further and pretend like they are actively trying to kill me - so I'm not surprised when one swerves across three lanes of traffic and slams on their brakes right in front of me -- true story - happened about two weeks after I got that Suzuki - I dropped two gears, locked up both the front and rear brakes and slid to a stop three inches from this bast**ds bumper.

I was in a state of shock, vibrating - but picked the bike up (fortunately no damage - only a tiny scuff on one of the turn-signals), started it, and took off - because had I stopped to talk to that guy - I would've literally ripped his face directly off.

Good luck!! And Be VERRY CAREFUL!!!
