Any suggestions to get his Social Security Disability appeal through approved?

My SO began dialysis 2 months ago. He became automatically eligible for SSD when he went on dialysis; but he had applied for SSD last August 2007 when he was unable to work because of end stage renal failure.

But because he had a pending case of SSD he will not get SSD right away because he was denied SSD after applying in August and that application is in appeal.

Money is very tight. We are on one income. He returned to his old job for 2 days and ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks afterward with pneumonia. This is taking forever and money is very tight. Any suggestions to get his appeal through approved?

  1. there are lawyers who specialize in SS disability and know the system and ways to get things thru. Go for a consult with one of them.

  2. My understanding is that the Appeals Council almost always turns down the appeal and then your case goes to a hearing before the Office of Hearings and Appeals before an Administrative Law Judge.  The only effort that you may take is to go the the office of your U.S. Senator or the Congressman for your district.  They will write a form letter.  It may help to expedite the Appeals Council action.  I do not want to be negative; but, you are probably going to have to have a review by the Office of Hearings and Appeals after the Appeals Council denies. Just trying to be honest with you about sad situation.  Hope it works out.
