  1. I got braces two months ago. Being of advanced age for braces, I'm 53, they really hurt. I used Motrin for the pain the first week and lots and lots of dental wax on the braces themselves till the gums and lips toughened up enough that I didn't feel like I had razors on my teeth.

Avoid heavy chewing.  Have protein shakes and creamy soups for awhile.

The good news for me, it hurt too much to eat, so I lost 12 pounds. I only need to lose 12 more and I'll be a size 10 again. : ) Since I can't eat half the things I like, it should be easy.

It really will get better soon.

  2. When I first got my braces or when I got them tightened, I would wet a washcloth with warm water, ring it out and bite on it.  It really does help.  Good luck.

  3. yah im getting braces soon 2 eep i hope that they dont hurt :()

  4. I used to eat a lot of ice cream, but there's nothing that will make the pain go away entirely.  But that should help a little.
