Question:

Any teachers living in California?

My husband and I are both teachers; he is elementary and I'm a high school English teacher. We've been planning on moving to the San Diego area in 3 years, but we've heard that the job market for teachers is pretty poor right now. Just wondering if anyone had some insight.

Also, what are the qualifications, aside from a degree. For example, we have a teacher's test in MA, and we have to get, or start getting, our Master's within 5 years.

Thanks to all answers! :)

  1. I currently teach in the San Diego area.  The latest budget is quite grim and many teachers got pink slips this year.  Teachers with as much as 7 years experience within my district got laid off.  The job market is very poor right now. Special education is about the only good chance of getting a job.  As far as teaching here you would have to have a California credential and knowing how the universities work, you would likely have 1-2 classes to fulfill the requirments.  They love to make teachers jump through hoops.
