If I got all A's and B's my freshman year, As and bs and 1 D last semester, And 1 A 2 Bs 1 C and 2 D-'s this semester, and I get As all of next year and senor year, do I still have a chance of getting into college? I am very active and I play a lot of sports if that helps.

  1. Get a lot of help with your entrance essay and explain why your GPA is trending down, but don't offer excuses.  Take responsibility for your grades and offer reasons why you can overcome these challenges in college.

    You'll be fine kiddo.

  2. I didn't go to high school, I skipped out early, I didn't get my GED, I went to community college for two years, now I am at university about to graduate. And I got accepted to the MBA program to get my masters next year.

So I would say yes you can still get in college, just probably not one of the top 10.

  3. Of course you do.  Not all colleges accept only the 4.0 GPA kids.  You don't have a terrible GPA, you just aren't getting into Harvard.  There are plenty of good schools out there for someone like you.

  4. Yes!  Many colleges (and future employers) like to see that you have struggled at some point in your life and are not that perfect 4.0 (unless you are going into a field where it is life or death).  It gives you character.  You don't have to get all A's but don't slack off.  Contact some of the colleges you are interested in and see what they say...it won't hurt.  Check their required GPA and credit requirements...maybe later on in college, if you need to, you can do remedial courses in those C or D classes...college remedial courses get you up to speed and help you in subjects where you are struggling before you take the college courses that really matter.  If the college does want that 4.0 polished transcript and you aren't going into one of those life or death fields, then maybe you don't really want to go to a college like that.  Most colleges look at you as a whole...but be prepared to explain those lower grades (and be honest).  You still have plenty of time.  Don't freak out!  Good luck!!  :)

  5. SURE YOU CAN!  The admissions department at your college of choice will look at the "whole picture."  They will take all your grades and activities into consideration.  They have a "point" system that they attribute to certain aspects of your high school profile.  Be sure to do a careful job on your writing sample.  Have someone proof it for you - that can speak volumes to an admissions counselor!  You are worth it - persevere - YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!

Good luck and God bless you!
