  1. Deep breathing for at least 3 minutes. Honest, it's great.

Other than that you could do what one of my friends does (this is great btw) - she 'schedules in' worrying time to her day. So, when she feels a bit overwhelmed she says 'nope, I'm going to deal with this in my anxiety half hour at 6.30pm', or whenever. It has transformed her life!

And she now feels she doesn't even worry so much - postponing the worry actually helps her see that if worries can wait, then they're not maybe that huge after all... See how you go

  2. Practice one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, at  http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

(The following is a variant of Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective. It is easy to be dismissive of such a seemingly unusual technique, but give it a good tryout, for at least a few weeks, to see if it is effective in your case).

Prior to using either of the methods in the above paragraph, first sit comfortably, and take a deep breath. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: "a thousand and one": this takes approximately a second).

Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally, if you like) 20 times: "A thousand and one; a thousand and two... " and so on, to a thousand and twenty. Then close your eyes and relax. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel.

Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner. Then, repeat the procedure one last time. Some people may find that this is all they need do.   With experience, you may find that you can practise this in public, with your eyes closed, which greatly widens the window of opportunity for its use, and avoids attracting unwanted attention. I have found that the 2 - 3 minutes spent using the EMDR markedly reduces distractions to the relaxation process, and is repaid many times over.

The above is from section 6, on anxiety at ezy build: see page N first, then the rest. Use the STOP sign method, and then employ a relaxation technique.

  4. Meditation has a tenancy to work for me. Often if you can clear your mind of the immediate thoughts, your mind will start wandering down new paths that might have answers.  But when you find yourself getting back to that worrying during your meditation, clear everything out again.  I would say smoke a bowl, but make sure you stay away from the Sativas.  They give me anxiety issues.

  5. omg, a very simple answer to this , try meditation and yoga.Meditation will definitely help you , I have had this problem.Go slowly and steadily , it will start showing results in a week only.Side by side along with yoga, it will help you to have a sound sleep. All the best

  7. Dippy said it nicely. Breathing helps a lot. there are a lot of breathing techniques to help you relax.

you could also do some light meditation along with the breathing exercises.

  8. I used to feel the same way. Please take this into consideration. It worked for me, although I am not you.

I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned out to be a chemical they put in food called sucralose. And it is in a lot of stuff. From fitness water to tomato sauce.

Sucralose is what Splenda is. Sadly, the package doesn't have to say Splenda or diet to have sucralose in it. You have to read the ingredients.

Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and more.

Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose

The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.

carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air

  9. A person should carefully consider what is likely to occur, it is not possible or constructive to try to think of every eventuality. For example, in the interests of family safety, you might consider what to do in case of a fire in your home. You might purchase and install smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. You might plan and rehearse escape routes from different parts of the house. But when does sensible, practical planning end and excessive, unwarranted anxiety begin? Such anxiety begins when you start to agonize over an endless number of hypothetical situations, many of which may be the product of a fertile imagination. Disquieting thoughts may overtake you, convincing you that you must have overlooked something or that you have not done enough to protect your family. This self-inflicted anguish can weigh so heavily on your mind that you may lose sleep over it.

Some would say, ‘Do not cross the bridge until you come to it.’ There may be no need to cross that imaginary bridge after all! So why be tormented by something that may never occur? The Bible says: “Anxious care in the heart of a man is what will cause it to bow down.”

    Philippians 4:6, 7

“Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.”

in response to our persistent prayers and supplications, Jehovah can give us an inner calm that protects our minds from being disturbed by unnecessary anxieties.

  10. You could try meditation, its a great way to clear and relax your mind. You can buy books cheaply with meditation techniques, find some guided meditations free online or join a class near you.

Also, cognitive behavioural therapy techniques are helpful in recognising and stopping unhelpful thought patterns. Again, there are lots of good books on this subject.

    Good luck.
