  1. I'm writing a book! OMG I'll e-mail you right now okay!

  2. I'm a teen writer but I don't believe in starting a book for publication at the age of 13-17 Or, at least, writing with the goal of instant publication (that is, publishing it shortly after you've written and edited it).

Right now I'm 18 and have written a lot of incomplete short stories, a few drabbles, and a few little pieces that explored trains of thought I had. I'm working on a short story right now about an old woman (lol, sounds boring, doesn't it?) I plan to increase my understanding of the English language as well as my vocabulary and writing skills a lot more before I tackle the world of novel publication. It's an extremely competitive world and not one people with a delicate psyche (it should be noted that teenagers have delicate psyches-part of that "in the middle of childhood and adulthood aka adolescent" thing we have going on) I want my future readers to see me go from great to greater, and greater. Right now I'd say I'm at very good. I'd say to be realistic about your writing.

Go to writing sites such as papertank.com and get some good criticism on your works so that you'll get an idea of how any publisher that looks at it will view it. Read some work from other people in our age group (aka teenagers) and compare yours to theirs. Read already published authors (god ones, not the ones especially targeted for a teen audience) Books like Lord of the Flies, Wicked (the one with the play of the same now but a completely altered plot) Prodigal Summer, The Vampire Lestat, The Great Santini and such.

Think about this. Can you honestly say that ten years down the line you will have grown so little that you'll look back on your writing attempts as a 14-14-16, etc year old and not think "I could've done so much better with this story"?

I see nothing wrong with writing a book for fun and sharing it with others online, that's a great thing, in fact. I just don't think it's a good idea to look for publication so early.

Best of luck to all of you in all of your writings.

  3. I'm a teen writing a book!

And I think I have a really good start.

  4. I am writing a book with about 5 short stories in it :).

Feel free to e-mail me if murders, teen depression etc. interest you, lol.

    My e-mail ish: caitlin_de_horselover@hotmail.com

  5. i am... i finished a book and now i am revising it, but i finde myself getting distracted

    good luck with your book!

  6. Yup im writing one too except im 13 i think that still counts as a teen

  7. Hey, yeah i'm a teen writing a book at the moment (a series actually) but maybe you can't call me a teen anymore because I'm 18, but I did start writing it at 17 and I had written stuff before that at your age.

I think what I'm writing is pretty good and so does my family, but I'm always under the impression that people will just blow me off because I am so young and the rumour of first books never getting published constantly whirs around in my head. If your interested to see what I have written go to my questions section and take a look. My ultimate dream is to become an author and when I go to university I hope to major in creative writing. Have you started writing anything yet? The best tip I can give you at the moment is to sit down with a pen and paper and create a brainstorm or flow chart. I did this and came up with so many ideas because you can keep adding on to them from different branches.

I wish you luck, it takes a lot of hard work and imagination.

P.S. The other thing about writing a book during my teen years is that I have never told anyone. I know that I shouldn't be embarrassed but I am and I don't want to be teased at school...
