I am a lefty teen tennis player and I play usta tournaments. I have descent groundstrokes and descent power, but my return aces, service aces, and regular shots are not devastating. Any tips on:

Different types of serve.

Devastating groundstrokes.

Aiming groundstrokes.

THANK YOU

  2. Best advice is practice practice and practice. Its the only way to get better with regards to different parts. Serve can be deadly if you get it right, it has to be good, you don't want your serve to slow or your opponent with control the pace of the rally and move you all over the court, most ending with them winning the point. So hard fast, vary it try body serves wide serves(my favorite) and serves down the T. you have to practice the power though, thats what the serve is all about also try make your second serve just as fast. Try High bouncing and low bouncing balls too.

Try cross court shots and down the line hard and fast is always best, get your accuracy up first. Then when you can place the ball exactly where you want it, your can start to hit them harder. Try moving your opponent all off the court 1) it creates spaces to play the ball into making it easier to hit winners

    2) it will tire your opponent out possibly causing them to play bad returns and giving you the up hand in the rally.

So keep practicing and you will eventually see vast improvement in your game.

    Hope this helps mate.

  3. Well....before I start, make sure you are not trying to return the ball for a winner every time.  That is a poor way to think about the return of serve.  When you return the serve, you should be getting the ball back as deep as possible.  This will but the server, who should be in an offensive position, in a defensive position.

As for different types of serve, I recomend the following:

    Second Serve (http://topspinsports.com/Lessons/Serve/S...

    Upgrading Second Serve Spin (http://topspinsports.com/Lessons/Serve/U...

You do not want to aim groundstrokes....in fact aiming will not keep you relaxed during the point.  you need to be hitting the same way for every shot (crosscourt and down the line).....nothing should change except for the contact point.  You need to swing the same way, just wait a second longer before you swing for a down the line shot.  Let me repeat, nothing should change when you hit a ball down the line, only your timing.

I am not sure what you mean by devastating groundstrokes....unfortunately, you have not given me enough information about what exactly devastating means.  But I would suggest practicing flattening the ball out when you go for a winner.  This will obviously increase you chances of hitting a winner rather than having your opponent get to the ball.  You dont want to hit a flat ball everytime, but you want to practice mixing in a FLATTER ball every once in a while....this will help make a groundstroke more "devastating".

Hope this helps,  feel free to check out the rest of the site, its a great resource that many pros are beginning to use!
