Any thoughts on Lexapro?

I started it last night, have a pounding headache today other than that I dont feel anyother side effect but kind of blurry vision..

She prescribed it for me for anxiety and depression (which was made worse in the last few years with severe insomnia, 18 hr days). My body crashed now I have anxiety depression and a little post traumatic stress from the exhaustion. Im not the same person at all. I was on xanax to take as needed which helped me get back into school and work but I feel dead inside, no energy or wants or needs etc. Everything that I did to my body (stress and exhaustion) changed me forever, I cant get myself back.

Does Lexapro work? Did it help anyone else out there? Thanks

  1. go to web md look up lexapro and there is 200 testimonials good and bad but at lease its a far range.good luck

  2. I've personally never taken it, but my mother takes it for depression and she's been on it for about 10 years or so, and its worked really good for her

  3. First, ask your doctor for Klonopin instead of xanax.  That is what my doctor has me on.  He likes it because it stays in your system a lot longer than xanax too.

In regards to the Lexapro, all the psychotropic medicines for depression affect different people in different ways.  In addition it has to get into your system to know if it is working, the dosing is correct, etc.

I am on Prozac currently.  We went through 5 different antidepressants to find the right one.

After finding that Prozac would work on me, the dosing had to be worked out, which it was.  We began with 20 mgs, then 40, 60, and now the max dose which is 80 mgs.

Prozac has a unique side effect to me, in the fact that it makes me cold, when I start taking it.  Its an internal cold as well.

So, right now, you are just going to have to give it time.  It may be as soon as a week, or it my be several weeks, not only to find out if it is working, but if the dosing is right.  In addition to that in that same time frame, the side effects should subside.

As a person who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, and depression, you may e-mail me anytime, if just to talk.

  4. It helps me I am stil on it.

  5. Lexapro has been great for me.  Its supposed to work really well with anxiety.  Before I was on Zoloft for the depression and anxiety and then was switched to lexapro, it helped the same with the depression as the Zoloft, but for anxiety it did REALLY well.

The only thing about Lexapro I don't like is the withdrawel symptoms.  If something happens and I miss it for a day due to whatever reason (such as pharmacy running out of it or whatever), I get horrible chills and lightheadedness

  6. My husband was on Lexapro for quite some time and it was really helpful for him. He also suffered depression and insomnia.

I think mild side effects are normal because it will take your body time to get used to.

Anything your concerned about though you should report to your physician.

  7. My friend takes it. It works for him.

  8. I was on lexapro for about a year and i guess it helped a little but all i wanted to do on that pill was eat. I do not have my depression or anxiety anymore but i don't think it is cause of the lexapro so my feelings on it are mixed. I didn't hate it but it was not to much of a change.

  9. lexapro works differently for everybody so asking us if it works isn't going to help you any.  I would say wait a week and if you dont' feel any better then you should talk to your doc.

I took lexapro but it didn't help me any...but I was also on abilify at the same time and that stuff made me have suicidal thoughts...that was scary.

    Good luck!
