Any thoughts on taking a 20 hour trip on Amtrak, with sleeper?

Go for it.  Trains are a nice ride.  They are scenic and relaxing.  If you didn't have a sleeper, I would still say it beats a bus by a mile.  With a sleeper, it is a no brainer.  Unless you are in a big hurry and need to take a plane, you can't lose on a train ride especially with a sleeper.

Did a 3 week tour by Amtrak a couple of years ago , clocked up 8,500 mls. Did`nt use the sleepers, the seats are wide and comfortable , no problem getting off to sleep. Showers at the end of the coach were good.One trip in a sleeper would have cost more than the 3week ticket.
