  1. Stay away from corn! That was  the worst when I had braces...NO gum except my ortho had told me I could chew Freedent...it rarely got stuck to my braces. Chewy candy is a definite no..actually anything really chewy. As far as drinks go you're fine. Just make sure you brush twice a day to avoid spots on your teeth after you get them taken off. Your ortho should have given you a list of things not to eat... good luck its worth it in the end!!

  2. FRED,

BEST YOU CAN DO IS USE A WATERPIK TO KEEP IT ALL CLEAN

  3. well theres a lot of stuff the orodontist tells u not to eat but i ate everthing and didn't have any problems but try to stay away from hard crunchy and stickys foods.

  4. The braces will start to be sore in a couple of hrs, so I suggest eating what you want to now before they start to be sore.  For a couple of days to a week, you'll definitely want to eat soft foods. For example: Milkshakes, grits, eggs, jello, pudding, applesauce, mac n cheese.. basically anything that requires minimal chewing. When the soreness fades off, you can go back to your regular diet.

  5. Foods to stay away from:

    1. Sticky foods

    Licorice

    Sugar Daddies

    Toffee

    Tootsie Rolls

    Caramels

    Starburst

    2.Hard foods

    Ice

    Nuts

    Hard taco shells

    French bread crust/rolls

    Corn on the cob

Apples and carrots (unless cut into small pieces)

    Bagels

    Chips

    Jolly Ranchers

    Pizza crust

    Uncooked carrots (unless cut)

    3.Sugur foods (Minimize these foods)

    Cake

    Ice Cream

    Cookies

    Pie

    Candy

    4.Only once a day

    Soda

    Sweetened tea

    Gatorade

    Kool-Aid

    Drinks with sugar

  6. Eat a lot before they get sore. When they do get sore, drink soup and eat soft things. What I did was cut my solid food into itty bitty pieces so it was bearable to chew...though that might take longer.

For advice on stuff not to eat, I know they advise you to not eat sticky stuff like gum and caramel and that other stuff, but it's really fine. It's just a pain to get out later.

  7. What I did as soon as I got them on is eat as much as possible! Because in a few hours the pain and soreness will settle in and it will be hard to eat for like a week. best of luck.

btw, try eating soups, pudding, applesauce, ice cream, untoasted bread, sugarless gum. and anything to drink :]

  8. Well I ate everything I shouldn't have....umm  don't chew gum...and get one of those brushes to clean in between. Make sure you stock up on wax because my braces left scars on the inside of my cheeks,

  9. Well these are pretty obvious but you might still find yourself doing them:

Don't chew on pens or ice cubes.

Gum is okay unless it seriously does stick then there should be another kind that will work.

If you have headgear actually wear it because you will get them off a little bit faster.

Do most everything your ortho says except for most of the food stuff your probably okay with.

  10. eat jello!

nothing hard or crunchy or taffy like

i would stay away from sugary drinks just because you're more prone to cavities if you don't brush well
