Im planning a holiday in bangkok for 3. If you stay in Bangkok or have been to bangkok can you please help me plan my holiday? I could like to know:

1. What is the best time to visit Bangkok? Season/ Off season? What months of the year.. weather wise, shopping wise and when are the hotels and aie fares cheaper?

2. What hotels do you advise i stay in? Im looking for something under or up to USD $100. And im looking for a hotel that is centrally located and not in the outskirts of the city.

3. Which are the "must see" places in Bangkok.

4. I am especially interested in shopping in Bangkok. How are the flea markets? What kind of stuff can i buy there? I would like to know the names and loactions of the best flea/street markets in bangkok. I would like to shop for clothes & shoes (womens), wooden home accessories etc, and other local stuff. Where is the best place to buy all this?

5. Food. The best Restaraunts and eateries in Bangkok where i can try out the local food.

  1. 1. I have never been there in season. All the places that are open in season, are also open off season. The benefits of off season is less tourists (Though there will still be thousands at any given time), and chepare accomodation.

    2. I stayed in Silom City Hotel. Less that US 50 a night for a King size room that can accomodate two. It is spotlessly clean, good breakfast (buffet), withing walking distance of skytrain, and all the other entertainment in Silom.

    3. Have a look for the must see places under the comments of previous posters

    4. I had a local take me to the wekend market. I do not know the name, but you should be able to find out easily what it is called.

    5. Sorry, a local took me for local food, I cannot recal,l the names. (One excellent place was at the weekend market, and i was the only tourist).

    6. I dont know.

  2. wow great choice. I love Thailand. The best time for me is april 13-15. that's the songkran festival and its so wild and fun!! I read about it in socialtravellersite (dot com). Just look for the article on festivals cause I remember reading it a few months back.

I would also check out the beaches. Phi Phi island is great and parties are unforgettable.

  3. http://www.visualthailand.com has 1,000's of current Bangkok photos, including 100's from all the stuff you can buy street shopping.

Best time of Year is Nov - Feb

    MBK is where to shop

Instead of Pattaya, if you can, go to Koh Chang Island, this is my favorite place in Thailand.

See all the 2008 photos of Koh Chang and all Bangkok attractions at http://www.visualthailand.com Thailands only commercial and advertising free website

  5. shopping places in bangkok:

Chatuchak Market- Overflowing with souvenirs, food, clothes, art... It’s a great experience even for non-shoppers, and really easy to get to on the Skytrain. Open on weekends only. Next to BTS Mochit station. Very interesting, but it can be very hot and crowded.

Suan-Lum Night Bazaar- Similar to Chatuchak Market with souvenirs, local food and beer. Open daily from late afternoon until midnight. Next to MRT Lumphini station, Great place to eat and hang out in at night.

Siam Paragon- A upmarket mega mall with a department store and many high end boutiques and shops. This is a family destination with something for everyone - Siam Ocean World at the basement should keep the kids busy while the serious shopper is at work. Exit at BTS Siam Station which leads to level 2 of this mall. Connected with other shopping mall : Discovery, Siam Centre and MBK. So if you want to have some serious shopping, this is the perfect place.

Siam Square- Just opposite Siam Centre, start with Soi 5 end with Soi 2. Endless little shops of local designers. Goodies sold from great dresses to vintage bags. Shopping heaven for a budget!

Mah Boon Krong - MBK- A popular mall with hundreds of small shops offering low to mid priced casualwear, shoes, bags, mobile phones etc. etc. Linked to BTS National Stadium Station, or a short walk from BTS Siam Station.

Pattaya:There are far too many attractions to list, but anything and everything is here: aquarium, wildlife parks, elephant treks, go karting, water parks, beaches, boat rides, boat tours, video arcades, fun restaurants, reasonably priced shopping, and hundreds of other things and places to go. All reasonably priced. Also Mini Siam park, a few botanical gardens, and day boat trip to Koh Larn, 20 minutes by speedboat 400 baht one way, or 45 minutes by ferry boat... boats leaving from Bali Hai pier, just past Walking Street... boats leave about once an hour. Koh Larn is beautiful, like paradise... almost.

I'd recommend Mercure Hotel pattaya http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels...  (75$/night in Dec). This hotel is very nice and staff were helpful and very professional. very comfortable and value for money.swimming pool is nice and clean. A 24 hrs Villa Market (supermarket) and a small cafe inside the market is very close to the hotel. You can shop and eat 24 hrs. Very new and nice plaza. Must go to the Street Market (near beach) to feel the night of Pattaya. Have a nice trip!!
