  1. first learn how to tune it, then learn how to read tablature, and print off a song you like, I use ultimate-guitar.com, then after you practice that song, look at the chords your using and find out what the chord name is, and the name eventually will stick in your head, as well as the chord shape on th fret board. Then move on to another song.

  2. Learn Chords and Scales. Chords are most important with an Acoustic Guitar.

You can buy a chord fingering poster at WalMart.

    Have fun!

  3. i've played guitar for ten years.  when i first started learning i just learned the basics---chords.  start with the these three: G, C, D (you can find on the internet the finger positions).  You would be surprised at how many songs use just those three notes.  Then you can move on to learn the other chords like F, A, E and all the variations.  Don't worry about strumming right now...that will come with time and lots of practice.  If you concentrate on learning and playing chords you'll just start to pick up the stumming naturally.  From there you can move to Barr Chords, scales.
