Okay, I'll be honest--my little one just got her first two teeth, and of course, they aren't ready to fall out yet, but I am still excited about getting my tooth fairy wings. :-) What special goodies do you leave for your little ones and when is a good time to do the sneaking? I want to be prepared :-)

I am very excited about my upcoming position as Easter Bunny Extraordinaire! I love some parts of my parental duties :-)

  1. The tooth fairy left my son a certificate for his first lost tooth.  She thought the online ones were too cheesy so made her own.

Use a special pouch or other container to put the tooth under the pillow in.  We've used a small velvet bag with drawstrings that originally came with some earrings in it.

So far, my son has gotten gold dollars from the tooth fairy - something more special than every day money.

The best time is right before you go to bed, when your child should have been sleeping for a while.  My first time, I was so nervous that I would forget to do it!  Write yourself a note if you have to!

  2. i was sooo excited for my oldests first tooth to fall out i went over board, i wrote a letter to him in a card that had a fairy on it and i got him a toothbrush and toothpaste which is now my mandatory gift along with any new kids mouthwashes or flossers,,as well as a toy and the classic dollar,,, i'm kicking myself now b/c with 3 kids i keep up with all gifts and they all now expect the tooth fairy to be like santa,, i usually put everything in a gift bag b/c where else would i put all that stuff,,, i would keep it simple with a letter and a dollar and a new toothbrush

  3. I always gave $1 a tooth.  It was under my kids pillows in the morning after they had put their tooth in an envelope under their pillow before bed. This usually happens around 5 years old.

  4. We are in the midst of having the tooth fairy come on a regular basis right now. (We have 6 and 8 year olds.)  In fact she paid us a visit last night.  ;)

We pay $1 per tooth (but the first tooth gets $5 because it is always such a big ordeal... DARN INFLATION!  LOL!)  Also, "Glenda", the tooth fairy for our region, leaves a letter for them with the money.  She addressed them by name and tells them how proud she is of them for being brave (if they pulled it themselves) or how funny the story was (if it fell out or something odd).  The kids always get very excited to get her letters.

  5. Wow, a lot of you give a lot of $$!

We use sacajawea $1 coins because they just have that special "treasure" quality and she enjoyed putting them in her piggy bank.

We also do the Sugar Fairy.  They get so much candy at Halloween these days - in our neighborhood it seems like everyone gives out a lot of chocolate bars and it was too much for a tot!  So we have her pick out about 1/4 of the candy for herself and the rest she leaves for the Sugar Fairy, who trades the candy for a toy she's been wanting.

I know you asked about the Tooth Fairy but it came to mind because all that candy isn't good for those little baby teeth!

  6. When it's time, have her write a note to the tooth fairy

Put the note and the tooth in a baggie, and put it under the pillow

    When she is bed

Make a note from the tooth fairy, Print in block letters, some kids know their parents handwriting, most would not

Put Tooth and 2 dollars in a baggie

When your daughter is a sleep, take the baggie under the pillow and replace it the one from the tooth fairy

The baggie is easier to fine, then just a tooth

You will have a bag of notes you daughter wrote to the tooth fairy

  7. It is a big deal when your child loses his/her first tooth. So let's make it fun! Go to Jo~Ann's or Micheals and they have little, tiny, "tooth chests" as my kids call them. Buy a few washable paints. Go home and let your child paint the box how they like it, and have them write a special note. Help your child put the little box and the note under the pillow that way you can put it at the very top of the pillow by the headboard. The child is going to be excited, so tell your child that if he/she gets up in the middle of the night, the tooth fairy will be scared away. Then they should fall fast asleep. Go in about an hour after they are asleep and pick up the note, and write a note to your child pretending to be the tooth fairy, and congratulate him/her. Leave a few dollars and a few pieces of candy. That is all you need to do!

  8. get a brightly coloured silk bag to put the money/sweets in buy a big pair of fairy wings for you and a small pair for her first visit from the tooth fairy.

send her a letter as the tooth fairy (type out on the computer) and tell her that you are giving her the wings so she can be part of her special fairy colony or something like that.

as I said before about the wings visit this website read the story and check these wings out I want a pair!

  9. I used to get 2 dollars.  I loved money.

  10. about 90 minutes after they fall asleep. make sure that they still are asleep. and if i remember correctly, 90 minutes is when they actually go into a deep sleep. so try then

    :]

  11. When I was little my parents made a really big deal out of things like this for which I loved and cant wait to start doing for my son, hes only 8 months old now though. For the tooth faity they would always write me a little note with this real extravagant  curly writing with glitter on it and sometimes there would even be glitter and other sparkly things in my room when I woke up in the morning and my money would always be hidden somewhere, not just under my pillow.  One time it was in a baggie tied in a knot around my doorknob and there were all kinds of really cool coins in there (like coins youd have to go to the bank to buy and $2 bills!) and also one time I even had my nose tickled by a feather and heard footsteps and doors opening, I mean they really went all out for me.  And I find feathers outside my door.  Same with santa, I would always hear noises on  the ceiling but I dare not look for fear that he wouldnt leave me presents!! I just love all the innoncence and nostalgic good feelings around the whole xmas season! Good luck i hope i gave you a couple ideas to get your wheels turning!

  12. I cheated with the under the pillow thing.. because really how creepy is that hearing that a stranger is sneaking in your room in the middle of the night and putting their hands under your pillow.. I know way overthough.. I bought a little pillow that hangs on the door k**b with a pocket to put the tooth in ..  I gave my son $10 for the first tooth but then after than the $$ went down.. I told him that only the first one is worth that much because it was special.

  13. Im not a adult but i have ideas. You could write a letter and put it under her pillow w/ 1$ or so, and you can make a trail of 'fariy dust' (just use glitter) It might be a pain to clean, but its cool!

  14. Well not much more I can add, allot of great ideas here.  My kids just grew out of all the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny and Santa stuff : (

One thing I did find out over the years about the Tooth Fairy is (at least at my house) she only likes shinny clean teeth.  My son went through a stage where he wouldn't brush his teeth unless I stood there and watched.  So I always told him the tooth fairy won't take teeth with cavity's. Well a few years down the road, he lost a tooth with a cavity in it, the Tooth Fairy came, didn't take the tooth, and she left only .50 cents (usually about $1 back then) and she left a brand new tooth brush. Needless to say he didn't like it (and neither did the Tooth Fairy I hated to see his disappointment) but he started doing a better job at brushing his teeth and he never got a tooth brush again.  And when his sisters went through that same stage of not wanting to brush, he told them about his tooth brush and they brushed their teeth much better after that.  And the Tooth Fairy has never left another tooth brush again.

Best of luck, and enjoy every little moment they grow up fast.

  15. i forget what show i was watching when they were talking about the tooth fairy and some parent had (i thought) a great idea. instead of money they gave books. books are so much more important than money and i am a huge reader so i will definitely do books too. but if your child has some other hobby... you could do that.

  16. One thing I have always done with all my kids is we right the tooth fairy a letter telling her how we lost the tooth and how we want it put to good use (the kids always decide what they want it used for) and i sneak in somewhere around midnight when i know they are good and sleeping and I leave a zip lok bag with a letter from the tooth fairy and money of course and other little cheap goodies like cheap dollar store things. when they wake up its always cute to see them run to our room and show off all the goodies while i read them thier letter.

  17. I haven't yet had to be the tooth fairy but I've got my idea in mind. I'll give my daughter a dollar or five or something and teach her to save it by putting it in her piggy bank. That's my opinion though.

  18. Oh you can get the cutest little pots that they can put their teeth in. My little girl had this crocodile thing that she's leave on the bedtime table, and I had to take the tooth from there. Good time for sneaking... make sure she's asleep! So many times have I gone in at some time where I thought they'd be fast asleep, I go in and see those big eyes looking up at me and I have to pretend I'm looking for socks or something ridiculous!

Ooh, we used to do the letter thing too. Writing in tiny handwriting (because tooth fairies are only little Mummy) and then "Isabella the fairy has a purple gel pen just like yours Mummy!"

    Good luck!

  19. Be prepared for the unexpected...not all teeth naturally fall out!!   We were overseas and my son was pushed into a metal trash can and had three teeth knocked out (6yrs old).   As we were putting him to bed (after a lonnnnngggg day at the hospital) he said "can't wait for the tooth fairy to come.....she's going to leave me YEN"....well naturally, we did not have any, only US dollars.   Thank God my next door neighbor came to the rescue.   So he got $1 worth of Yen per tooth.   You would have thought he got diamonds....the shriek in the morning!

  20. Aww :D

My mother would put a small tube of sealed (this is important!!) glitter under my pillow, and say it was fairy dust. Or a she'd put a silver dollar.

She would also write a note in curly, fancy writing and say something like this:

    "Dear (little one's name here),

I picked up your tooth and left you a little treat behind. I will be back as soon as you lose your next tooth!

    Love,

    The Tooth Fairy"

I don't really know when to sneak in the room, but I think that you should go pretty late. Like, 10:30 to 11:00.
