Any tips for a vintage surf style bedroom?

I'm a fifteen year old girl, who lives for waves and snow.. I'm re-doing my room and have decided to go with the old california/vintage surf theme.. I'm guna mount some boards on my walls, but other than that, i have no clue what color to paint them and how to bring the 80's look into it. I'm thinking blue walls, but will go for anything.. I want some brightness. Anything will help me..

Do the boards have any graphics on them?

If so use a color that appears on all boards.

Research vintage posters...comcert posters, old hang ten clothing ads, other surf stores etc, copy and paste some ideas to get a good stock of ideas going....choose the colors that seem to pop at you.....If you use blue....you might do a faux finish with a white wash or something.....
