  1. Don't ever stop learning. Keep it honest. Don't cut corners. Have fun!

  2. I've been a mechanic for 36 years and I would say don't do it. You do a lot of work and are underpaid and unappreciated. You can't keep up with all the changes that the manufactures make from year to year. Most of the places that you will work offer no health insurance or any other benefits. You'll have to work you *** off to make over $40,000 a year. Alot of your time and labor will be given away by your employer and time and labor is money.  If I could do it all over again I would not be a mechanic. There are other professions that pay a lot better and you wouldn't have to work as hard.

  3. auto repair can be a shiesty tiresome business s a flat-rate mechanic choose ur career wisely.

  4. Get in a shop as soon as you can. I started in a smallindependent shop because I wanted to start fixing right away. Dealerships make you work up to it. Which is fine if you have the patience, I didnt. The nice thing about dealerships is they have programs to teach you, and I know all the dealerships here in the San Jose CA area will send you to school. An independent shop most likely wont have any program like that. But in an independent shop theres no time to let you change oil for months on end, you will start tearing down jobs from the get go.

The thing that I know screws up alot of guys just starting out is the tools. Worry about building your set first, don't worry about the $5000 Snap On killer tool box. Put it towards tools. I packed my tools to and from the shop for 2 years before I got a box and even then I bought a craftmans box. I now have a shop and I still use my craftsman box.

  5. buy good tools with a lifetime guarantee

  6. yep learn on your own car

learn online free information found on google

  7. you could try marine or aviation jobs if you have done mechanical engineering

  8. Always make double sure! no matter what.

  9. Be honest and charge a fair price.
