Question:

Any tips for being able to breathe better when it comes to surfing?

i am a thirteen year old girl and i just finished my first day ever of surfing (WOOHOO!!!) and i loved it to death. i've been itching to do it more and more when i started thinking of possible ways to hurt myself while surfing. i'm fine with all the broken bones, stiches, cuts, scrapes, whatever, but i realized there was always the possibility of going under the water during a particularly monstrous wave and not being able to hold my breath until the time came when i could get back to the surface.

the longest i've ever been able to hold my breath is around 30 seconds. but if i get caught at a bad angle, even in a swimming pool, i'm not so good at keeping it in for more then 3. so what can i do (during school, plane flights, or, on occasion, underwater) to get that amount up to at least 45 seconds?

oh- one last thing... posture. i have bad posture, and it hurts my back a ton whenever i realize i'm slumping or hunching and start trying to fix it. any tips on that either?

thanks!

  1. Just practise hey.

Whenever you have the chance, in a swimming pool or at the beach.

go underwater and hold your breath for as long as you can.

it increases your lung capacity, and the ability of your body to go longer without oxygen.

    Youll be fine.

about the posture, thats up to you.

  2. just relax. it sounds simple, but most people just can't keep from panicking.

    h**l, smoke a bowl.

  3. well right before you wipeout, take a huge deep breath.

you'll feel more comfortable after your wipeout...
