Question:

Any tips for left handed golfers?

hello-

Taught myself up to a average amateur score(85-90), but would like advice regarding making it easier to learn the game from the lefty's side. Everythings friggin' backwards!

Its has to be so much easier for right handers initially, but this drives me to beat my arrogant right handed friends in golf even more! They have no idea how much more work ive put in,just to keep up with them.

Are there any books specifically about this, or specially made for lefty's?

Thanks a bunch

  1. The game is the same, from either side of the ball.  The only difference is the difficulty in finding equipment.

Find a qualified PGA Professional to give you a lesson.  Go to PGA.com for a good one near you!

  2. I'm a righty, so I can't offer you any advice.

But I did search "left handed golfers" and got tons of decent responses.

85-90 is a really nice score.  I've been playing for ten years and I still average scores like those.  That's why you'll never see my butt on the tour, lol.

    Good luck.

  3. first of all i gotta say rightys are wayyy better,,,haha

i am also pretty much a self taught golfer actually i have never had a real lesson. for some minor tips i would watch the golf channel or check some stuff on the internet.  I would say now that you have reached that point of 85-90 the best thing you can do is just practice, practice and oh practice. thats what i did and i am now a 75- to lows 80s golfer.   a huge part is all about your mind. whats in your head can be the difference between the best round of your life or just another S****y average round filled of pars, lots of bogies a couple double bogies and maybe a birdie or two.

    so yea just practice

  4. You really shouldn't have to work any harder as a lefty. The game is a difficult one to master left or right handed. Most tips you find will be for rightys, but all you have to do is reverse the sides they mention and work that way.

Also, pick the one aspect of your game that needs the most work and focus on that. Keep practicing that one thing until you feel comfortable with it and then move on to the new part of your game that needs the most work. Soon you will be showing the others up.

Just remember it was hard for them too.

  5. im 15 and a lefty i shoot around 70's-80's

  6. None of this is lefty advice but it should help...

I would say the best way to shave strokes at this stage is to start keeping some basic stats on yourself. Eliminate any three putts, decrease your putts per round. Keys to putting - watch the putt the entire way no matter if you like it or not...it wil lgive you information...if it rolls by 3 feet did it break as it went by ? Which way?

Practice your up and downs from around the green.

Course management - play to your strengths on the course. if you are great with a 7 iron then lay up on par 5s to that distance...not to some intermediate.  If you hit your 5 iron well but struggle with drive and 3 wood, then on the short par 4s hit 2 five irons to the green.  If there is a bunker out there right on the number you hit your driver to then dont hit driver!

This kind of stuff isn't exciting or lefty/righty related but that's how you score and thats why you alway hear the pros say that the game is 50% skill and 50% mental. You need to think your way around the course.
