  1. I set and play outside hitter for my college volleyball team and two things you can do are...

1.) Buy the weighted setter's ball http://www.spikenashbar.com/product/Tach... and practice setting that against the wall while moving your feet like you are running in place.

2.) Don't buy the setter's ball and just use a regulation one. Do the same thing as I described above, or like another poster said previously, practice underneath a basketball net and move around and set from different areas around the hoop.

Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

  2. Use a waterpolo ball or a heavier ball of the same size (ive tried getting better at setting with a basketball and it completely screwed up everything and i had to almost learn it all over again) as a volleyball. practice setting with that. you can also lie on your back and do baby sets above your forehead, which is really good for control. Baby sets are just good in general. another good drill is standing 10 feet or so away from a wall and finding a spot or crack or something and just keep setting it to that spot. doing that and backsetting works too.

a drill my previous coach did for setters is that  he cut open a volleyball and stuffed in old jeans really tightly and sealing it with tape (homemade volleyball medicine ball) and then the setters would work with that.

just remember that one of the best setting drills is just setting back and forth with a partner! If you want a little harder, have them make you move to the ball and then push it out

  3. A fun thing to do is to lie flat on the ground on your stomach across from a partner, who is also on their stomach as well. Pass the volleyball back and forth from this position making sure you push your arms straight out. Setting to yourself in the air or setting to yourself on the ground is also helpful.

  4. use a basketball hoop. practice setting into the or the area around the baketball hoop. also use a basketball to set that helps build strength.or if you have a volleyball net and like a laundrey basket or a clean trash can you can practice on the net setting into the basket/trash can. hope that helps

  5. I agree with the last poster...when I started out I would have to set 100 balls into a basketball hoop.....It helps with control and acccuracy. at night lying on your back and setting to your self helps with the feel of the ball. Also work on finger strength it's a very under utilized muscle.

  6. don't flick your hands to the sides, keep them facing the same way the whole time you set, and push your arms out.
