Any tips for teaching high school how to read defensive coverage schemes?

  2. The only thing I've found that works is watching lots of game film... Some players just pick it up easier than others...

  3. Are you kidding? The plays the d uses are dependant on the offense. A blitz is hard to read because the "d" may line up as a blitz, but may drop into coverage before the snap. And vice-versa. As an offense, you are hoping to execute properly.  If the play you run is properly executed, the "d" will have very little chance of stopping you anyway. Otherwise, how many players do they have on the line? 5? Chances are, they are playing man. More than that? They are playing zone or hoping their "d" is really good. If so, try a few middle passes to your slots, chances are you will get a one on one situation in that coverage. Not many touchdown passes but you will move the chains. Especially when you get a  linebacker covering a wide-out.
