Any tips for using power slash on Okami on the wii??

Ive just brought okami for the wii but im struggling to make the power slash technique work. Im at a point where im helping some man cut down some scarecrows and its not working. Its driving me insane, im drawing a horizontal line but its not doing anything!!! Any tips on getting it to work??

Blah! I hate those annoying parts! There's like, ten of them in the game! Anyways, while your doing it, hold down the Z button and draw the line. If you don't know where it is, it's the bigger button on the nunchuck (but you probably already knew that). It makes a nice, straight line:).

Try drawing the lines fast. I find that faster lines are recognized more and they tend to be straighter. If you're not already doing this, try flicking your wrist and not moving your arm when you draw the line (hold the Wii remote to the left a bit and flick it to your right). Try practicing on rocks and trees, and even people (lol) until you get used to it.
